March, 2015

The Hagia Sophia's construction was completed in 537.  At the time it was built it was the largest building in the world.  It served primarily as an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral until 1453 when it was converted to a mosque after the conquest of Constantinople.  In 1931 it was closed and reopened as a museum in1935.
