Roman Ruins of Ephesus

March, 2015

Today we tour the ruins of the Roman city and port of Ephesus.  Ephesus was abandoned when the harbor silted up and became unusable for ships to enter.  Ephesus was a busy city during Roman times with a population of maybe 150,000 people.

Ephesus was an important center during the birth and expansion of Christianity.  St. John may have written his gospel in Ephesus and St. Paul lived in Ephesus for a time.

Here are the Roman Ruins.

The amphitheatre.  This amphitheatre is still used for events such as concerts.  The acoustics in the amphitheatre are still marvelous.

The community toilet, otherwise know as city hall.
