Alcona 2017

Acona, also know as Sky City, is a pueblo on the top of a mesa.  Until a road was blasted out of the rock in the 1950's, was climbing up foot paths.

Below the mesa there is a Cultural Center and Gift Shop.

Acona is at the top of the mesa.  Many of the buildings do not have gound level entrances.  Ladders are used to access the residences on the second story.  Currently, 25-30 individuals live in Acona permanently.  Many more come on weekends and for festivals.  From Acona, other mesas are visible.
